CanPL has fixed the USPORTs draft–at least mostly. Was it a mistake that needed to be made? Maybe it could have been avoided. You only get so many mistakes.
In addition to signing Cory Bent this week, Halifax Wanderers also released Jake Ruby, their 14th overall pick in the 2019 USPORTs draft. That’s as may be, but it reveals the massive hole in the USPORTs draft system.
The inaugural CanPL/USPORTs draft presented a completely clean slate. Draftees were actually the first players formally affiliated with the new clubs, and many went on to have a lot of success. That, in turn, increased both expectation and attention for the 2019 draft.
